About the Music Games |
This game mimics something I did in a music theory class in high school. While recognizing these scales by ear is not going to make you a virtuoso on an instrument, it's amusing to try to figure them out.
In the future, I may add some interval training and some other scales here. Having done this much, it's not hard to do more.
Things are still a bit sparse here. If you're wondering what these unusual scales are, the folks at wordIQ have a decent set of definitions.
Minor Disclaimer
The scales as drawn in the game aren't really correct. If you played them on a piano, you'd be hitting the right keys. I hacked it out in an afternoon. The problem is that if I start on key that is in a flat scale (e.g. Bb, which has 2 flats), the lowered third note in an Aeolian scale should be represented as a D flat, not a C sharp. However, my silly program always represents that tone as a C sharp, regardless of the scale in which it appears. Someday...
